I love the Cloud Collector's description of pannus:
Loitering in the saturated atmosphere just below rain clouds, they resemble some sort of cloud version of hoodies, killing time outside McDonald's on a Saturday night.

On a more practical note, Pannus are the five-minute-precipitation warning of the cloud world...
